Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Laser

Years of sun exposure can lead to sunspots, age spots, freckles, and broken blood vessels. The red and brown tones make the skin appear aged and uneven. IPL turns back the hands of time by selectively destroying melanin (pigment) and hemoglobin (red blood cells).

At Noiren Crarigg Skin Clinic ,we  use IPL to treat the face, chest, arms, and hands.

For patients with rosacea, IPL can be used to decrease diffuse redness and prevent flushing

For Patients looking for  anti aging its use is to restore a youthful and rejuvenated skin.

For patients with Sun Damage and Hyper Pigmentation it reduces age spots and rejuvenates the previously damaged skin.

An Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment, also known as photorejuvenation or a photofacial, can reduce visible skin damage caused by sun exposure as well as pigmentation issues, such as burst capillaries, age spots, and rosacea. During an IPL treatment, visible pulses of light target the area without damaging the surrounding skin. The light energy is absorbed by melanin (responsible for skin pigment) and hemoglobin (red blood cells in the blood vessels). As a result, these structures become damaged and are absorbed by the body or brought to the surface of the skin where they will slough off.

IPL  skion rejuvenation can be used for the face , neck , decolletage and hands

What Does the IPL Photofacial Treat?

Photofacials safely and effectively target skin imperfections, with results that improve over time as the skin thickens and becomes healthier. Because red blood cells or the skin’s melanin absorb light pulses efficiently.

What to Expect During an IPL Treatment

Your provider will clean the treatment area and apply a cool gel. They will also provide you with dark glasses to wear for eye protection. The dermatologist passes a handheld device over your skin, delivering high-intensity pulses of light energy into the dermal tissue. You might feel mild discomfort during the treatment. In addition to slight warming, patients feel a snapping sensation, similar to a rubber band. Depending on the treatment area, the session should take 20 to 30 minutes.

Stop the clock on aging and give yourself a rejuvenated appearance through comprehensive medical care and the most advanced cosmetic treatments available.

IPL contraindications:

  1. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: IPL is generally avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to a lack of sufficient safety data.
Active Skin Infections: Avoid IPL treatment on areas with active infections like cold sores, impetigo, or open wounds.
    3. Recent Sun Exposure/Tanning: Recent sun exposure or tanning (including self-tanners) can increase the risk of pigmentation issues and burns. IPL should be avoided on tanned or sunburned skin.
    4. Certain Skin Conditions: Conditions like lupus, porphyria, dermatomyositis, and epilepsy may be exacerbated by IPL and should be avoided.
    5. Light-Sensitive Medications: Certain medications can increase skin sensitivity to light (photosensitivity), making IPL potentially harmful. Examples include some antibiotics, antidepressants, and antihistamines.
    6. Dark Skin Tones: Individuals with darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV-VI) may be more prone to pigmentation changes and burns, as IPL can target melanin.
    7. History of Keloid Scarring: Individuals prone to keloid scarring may not be ideal candidates for IPL, as it can potentially worsen scar formation.
    8. Certain Medical Conditions: Conditions like diabetes, especially with poor healing, may require consultation with a medical professional before IPL treatment.
    9. Over Tattoos or Permanent Makeup: IPL should not be used over tattoos or permanent makeup unless the intention is to remove them.
    10. Open Lesions or Inflammation: IPL should not be performed on areas with open lesions, inflammation, or swelling.
    11. Certain Medications for Acne: Individuals who have used oral acne medication like isotretinoin within the past six months should also avoid IPL treatment.

Pre-IPL Treatment Care:

  • Sun Protection: Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 4 weeks before treatment.
  • Fake Tan: Remove any fake tan at least 7 days prior.
  • Skincare: Stop using retinoids, glycolic/salicylic acids, or other exfoliating products 3-5 days before.
  • Clean Skin: Come to your appointment with clean, product-free skin.
  • Medications: Inform your doctor of all medications and supplements.

Post-IPL Treatment Care:

  • Avoid Heat and Friction: For 24-48 hours, avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and intense workouts.
  • Soothing: Apply aloe vera gel or a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer if needed.

  • Consult Your Skin Clinician : If you have concerns about blistering, pain, or infection, contact your doctor.

Suitable Candidates:

  • Fair to medium skin tones (Fitzpatrick I-III): Individuals with these skin types typically have a good contrast between the target chromophores (like pigmentation or blood vessels) and the surrounding skin, allowing for effective treatment with minimal risk.
  • Individuals with specific skin concerns: IPL can be effective for treating a range of conditions, including sun damage, age spots, freckles, rosacea, and broken capillaries.
  • Those who are not pregnant: Pregnancy is generally a contraindication for IPL treatment.
  • Those who have not used Roaccutane in the last 6 months: Roaccutane can make the skin more sensitive to light.
  • Those who have not had recent sunburn or excessive sun exposure: Recent sun exposure can increase the risk of complications.

Not Suitable Candidates:

  • Darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV-VI): The risk of hyperpigmentation, burns, and other adverse effects is higher in these skin types due to the increased melanin content.
  • Individuals with active skin conditions: Conditions like severe dermatitis, eczema, or active infections in the treatment area can be aggravated by IPL.
  • Those with raised lesions: Moles, basal cell carcinomas, squamous cell carcinomas, and melanomas should not be treated with IPL and should be evaluated by a medical professional.
  • Those with a history of seizures: IPL can potentially trigger seizures in susceptible individuals.
  • Those who have recently waxed or used other methods of hair removal that pull the hair out by the root: IPL is not effective for hair removal if the hair has been recently removed from the root.
  • Those taking certain medications: Photo-sensitizing medications can increase the risk of adverse reactions.

Important Considerations

:Consultation with a qualified professional:

It’s crucial to have a consultation with a qualified and experienced practitioner before undergoing IPL treatment, especially if you have any concerns about your skin type or medical history.

  • Skin reactions:

Temporary side effects like redness, swelling, and mild discomfort are common after IPL treatment. These usually subside within a few hours to a few days.

  • Proper aftercare:

Following the practitioner’s aftercare instructions, including avoiding sun exposure and using sunscreen, is essential to minimize the risk of complications and ensure optimal results.
